Palm Zire 71 Battery Installation Guide

The instructions below come with no warranty or guarantee, proper or improper assembly or use of excessive force may result in damage to the parts involved or to your PDA/Mp3 Player. By utilizing these instructions, you agree to hold Laptops For Less blameless and unaccountable for damages or problems caused by use of these instructions. These instruction require a moderate level of technical ability and proficiency in the use of hand tools, as well as a general understanding of electronic components. Buyer assumes full responsibility for the installation of this replacement battery.

Step 1:

Pull down on the back case cover of the PDA to reveal the digital camera and some screws. Use the included T-5 torx wrench to remove the two screws.

 

*Important: Before you begin step two, please make sure the blue tabs shown in the picture to the left are not connected to the circut board of the PDA. These tabs can be disconected whitout causing damage to your PDA, but we recommend that you consult a technician to remove the tabs. *
Step 2:

After the screws are removed, flip the device face up and begin prying the case apart starting from the top and working your way down the edge of the PDA.

Step 3:

Once the case unsnaps, the back case cover should still be attached by a ribbon cable. Move the back case cover to the side to allow access to the battery. The battery should be face down in a silver battery case and should still be attached to the PDA by its power cable. Flip the battery and case towards the top of the PDA to get a better view of the battery.

 

*Important: Some Zire 71 models have been reported to have a blue casing over the battery power cable that is attached to the PDA circuit board. If your PDA has such a casing please refrain from installing the battery or consult with a technician. *
Step 4:

To remove the battery and case, disconnect the power cable by gently pulling upward on the connector with your fingers. The white connector should unsnap from the motherboard and allow you to remove the battery.

 

Step 5:

The original battery should be attached to the battery case by a very small amount of glue. Gently pull on the battery to remove it from its case.

Please pay attention to have the original orientation (power cable towards the top of the PDA). Apply the new battery within the battery case, reattach the power cable and reapply the battery/battery case to the back of the motherboard. Connect the power cable of the new battery by positioning it over the socket, pushing it in.

Snap the cover back together and put back the two screws.

Your new battery will need a minimum of three hours of charging before first use.
